Strasbourg, 09.07.2010 − The Council of Europe's Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CPT) has published today, at the request of the Turkish Government, the report on the January 2010 ad hoc visit to Turkey, together with the Government’s response.
During that visit, the delegation visited the new detention facility of the F-type High-Security Closed Prison on the island of Imralı, in order to examine the conditions under which Abdullah Öcalan and five other inmates who had recently been transferred to the establishment were held. Particular attention was paid to communal activities offered to all prisoners and the application in practice of the prisoners’ right to receive visits from relatives and lawyers.
Both the CPT’s report and the Turkish Government’s response are available on the Committee’s website: http://www.cpt.coe.int
